Garden
Oil on canvas panel, 36” x 24”
This painting was created for a group show “Justified and Ancient” where each artist chose an ancient, museum-quality artifact as inspiration for an artwork. I chose an ancient Greek lekythos, a vessel used for storing oil. This particular object had on it an image of the goddess Nike, or winged victory. Inspired by the object I decided to place it in a natural setting, a garden, inspired by the wall paintings from the House of Livia in ancient Pompeii.
